Quick answer: Check fastening, shoulders, sleeves and everyday movement with your intended layer underneath. The size label alone is not enough.
A leather jacket fits well when it is comfortable not only while standing still, but also while moving.
Shoulders
For a conventional set-in sleeve, check the seam near your shoulder line. Dropped shoulders and raglan cuts are designed differently; do not judge every jacket by one seam position.
Chest and body
You should be able to close the jacket without excessive pulling, while avoiding too much loose volume.
Sleeve length
Depending on the style, sleeves usually finish around the wrist. Biker styles can be slightly longer.
Layering
If you will wear it over a sweater, try it that way. The right size depends on how you will actually use the jacket.

A movement checklist
Fasten the garment, sit down and reach as if holding a steering wheel. Check collar pressure, armhole comfort and strain on the zip. Take ordinary steps in a longer coat. Compare a neighbouring size or another cut where available.
Adapt the fitting to winter layers
Bring your intended sweater when trying shearling or fur. Assess the weight, lining and body length together. Do not choose a painfully tight garment expecting stretching to fix it.
Common questions
Is my usual size enough? A label is a starting point; compare the actual cut.
Should I size down because it is leather? Do not rely on stretching to solve poor fit.

Measurements before an enquiry
Measure your chest with a level, comfortably loose tape and explain which layer you wore. You can also compare body and sleeve lengths on a comfortable jacket: state where each measurement starts and ends. Body measurements are not garment measurements; they do not automatically determine ease or available stock.
Send the store a model photo, your usual size and these approximate measurements. An in-person fitting still checks the actual fit. Choosing a women’s jacket · Choosing shearling · Directions and opening hours
